I have discussed above in some detail about the steroid Somatotropin and its uses and abuses (if I may say so)when used as a diuretic for diabetes. The purpose of this study was to compare the diuretic properties of the natural Somatotropin with those of the synthetic and synthetic diuretics (as well as the diuretic properties of the nonpolar drug Triamcinolone Acetate) to determine if the natural Somatotropin diuretics also provide diuretic properties. In some subjects, the ability of the natural Somatotropin to reduce urination was significantly superior at all three doses. At the lowest concentration of 5-SOM and 10-MOM, the natural Somatotropin diuretic activities were approximately equal in all three groups. An analysis of the urine samples at three urine collections after each drug-administration protocol indicated that the two lower concentrations of 10-MOM (3.3 ug/L) were significantly lower than the two higher concentrations (6.6 ug/L) of 5-SOM (5.6 ug/L) and 10-MOM (10.7 ug/L). At the lowest dose, the urinary nitrogen content was lower by 6.6% after a single intravenous infusion of 10-MOM than after a single intraperitoneal infusion of 10-MOM (P = 0.038). In other words, the 5-SOM and 10-MOM diuretics appeared to produce a significant lower urinary nitrogen than Somatropin. There was no significant relationship between urine uric acid level and the total protein in urine. At 10-MOM and at 5-MOM, the ratio of urine to total protein was significantly lower in the 5-MOM than in the 5-SOM group with a P = 0.044. Furthermore, in all samples from the 7-day experiment there were more urothelial adhesions on the dorsal surface of kidneys than in any other controls. This was noted at a significantly reduced value at 5-MOM (P < 0.0001) and at the uppermost concentrations (P < 0.0001) of 10-MOM.
